08 - video/action; backdated to before the Kin'corans return

[The journal feed begins with a close up shat of one of Dash's very large eyes. She steps back, huffs, and adjusts the journal a little. By the looks of it, she's right in the center of town, joined by what appears to be six ponies, a Charizard donning a bandana, two little Yoshi's, a raccoon, and some other miscellaneous nonhumans she may have gathered.

Once the journal's in position, Dash swoops out in front of them and clears her throat.]

All right. So I know things have been pretty hectic since all the refugees showed up. Raids, food shortages, it's all been a disaster in the making. Some of you guys probably hate the Kin'corans and are happy to see 'em go.

But you know what? Some of 'em are actually pretty cool. So, I'm happy to introduce the Stand Out Crowd's Kin'cora branch! They might be a small group now, but I'm sure that in time all the non hue-mans in their enclosure will totally appreciate having a group they can hang with without being treated like oddballs.

It just goes to show that we aren't that different, and maybe if we stopped bickering for five minutes, we wouldn't have had so much trouble in the first place.

[She laughs.]

As for my Standout Crowd, I'd say it's high time we got this thing off the ground. Once the village clears out, why don't we hook up and at least try to have our first meeting? Or at least a headcount. I know I've been kinda lousy at getting the ball rolling, but after this mess, I think it's high time we got our act together.

[With that said, she'll be closing her journal and hanging out around the fountain for the duration of the day. Passersby are free to see her and her merry band of Kin'coran nonhumans chilling. They certainly stand out, all things considered.]

Heh, thanks. I'm just glad that not all of these guys were super hostile. Some of the Kin'Corrans were pretty edgy, but given the circumstances, I can't really blame them.

I mean, we haven't exactly been the best neighbors.

It was more of a general thing. But, hey, more power to ya for taking some initiative!

.. I still don't get why people would hate them. They're just people like us, right..? [ that, and kotomi is half-oblivious to everything ever either way. ]

Exactly! But they did pull off some raids, too, so I can see why it'd bug people, but fighting 'em will only make things worse. And some people here are acting like they're the bad guys.

I dunno, it just feels like we're only getting one side of the story.

I don't want to think of them as bad guys. So far they didn't really seem like bullies.. if we suddenly would've gotten a lot of bullies here then it'd be bad, but as long as they aren't bullies, then we should make friends.. I think.

Not a bad way to look at it! See, if they were trying to do something really sinister, then there'd be a problem. But just trying to get by isn't a crime.

It just kinda escalated.

.. Hm.. What kind of sinister thing do the other people think the new people are planning, then?

I dunno. Village wide takeover? Burning down buildings?

Wearing mismatched socks?

Ah, I see. I must've learned something new today then, since I've never read anything about this before. I didn't know wearing mismatched socks was such a well-known crime.

Actually, that part was a joke. 'Course, my friend Rarity probably would call it a crime.

So.. is it a crime or not? I think I should at least know that for sure so I won't ever commit such a horrible crime.

Well, it might be a "fashion crime," but it's nothing that serious. At least, nothing that'll get you arrested.

.. I don't know much about fashion crimes though.. I'll have to read some more about them so I can make sure I'm not doing anything wrong. Crimes are bad, after all.

Well, it's not like you can get serious punishment for it. Really, I doubt you've got anything to worry about.

But I'd still feel bad if people got mad at me for it..

Aw, relax. The worst they'd probably do is stare and ask why you're dressed funny. If you were, I mean.

But that sounds like something a bully would do. Only a bully would say you're dressed funnily.

Eh, sometimes people say stuff like that without really thinking about it. Doesn't make 'em all bullies. They just don't all have tact.

That certainly is a "stand out crowd" you've got with you. [Is that a Charizard there too? Oooh...] It's nice to see that someone was able to befriend some of the refugees here despite those incidents that have taken place.

The thing about a huge group of people is that they're not all gonna be jerks. That'd be silly! And I learned a while back that judging people before you even meet them can lead to some serious problems.

[Like with Zecora. All the fear of her really didn't do any good.]

Not that these guys don't have a right to be jealous. Apparently the Kin'corans don't even have electricity in their village.

[The Charizard nods, but remains silent. The same goes for the rest of the group.]

[Nod, nod. Well said, Rainbow Dash.]

Really? That's rather unfortunate...while I still don't necessarily approve of some of the things that have happened, I do see why they would be frustrated.

Yeah. I'm not happy about what happened with the farm, but I'm sure some of us would've done the same thing if we were in their place.

I'll just be glad when things get back to normal around here. And I sure hope things improve for these guys, too.

Yes, I hope so too. In the meantime until then, I suppose we'll have to try giving their stay here a more comfortable taste than we have been. [At least for the ones that have actually been on their best behavior and uninvolved with the incidents...]

Hopefully it's not too late for that. They're all taking off pretty soon, so there's not a ton of time to patch things up.

Then there's really not a moment to waste now, is there? It shouldn't ever have to be too late to try to fix things and have them leave with a better impression of us than they've had during their stay, and vice versa of course.

And it's better to work it out now than to wait until they're gone and wish we had done something.

Yes, that's right! Now it's just a matter of figuring out how to best approach the situation and work on coming to an agreement of sorts with them before they go.

[You know, like how you did with your "Stand Out Crowd". Though, admittedly, he's a little short on ideas himself right at this moment since he's been trying to keep a few of the Pokemon cast from starving to death in the woods more so than dealing with the refugees... ^^;;]

Well, I know somebody's planning on having a baseball game, so that should help.

Other than that, I guess the best thing we can do is try to make negotiations with 'em. Or at least wish 'em luck when they do leave.

Mm. At least the baseball game could be fun--maybe the exciting taste of the game could even lift some of the weight off their hearts.

Exactly. I'd think about showing off some of my stunts, too, but with the power cap, that's... kind of a problem.

Ah, I suppose so. Though, I'm sure your talents would still be able to shine through none the less, even if one has to scale back their abilities to be in line with the power cap.

Ha! That's true. A little slowdown won't stop me from being awesome, but it's just not as exciting when I'm going one tenth of my usual speed.

Oh? What would you consider to be your usual speed?

[Like how many miles-per-hour are we talking about here...]

I've gotten to the point where I can break the sound barrier in a few seconds. And I can get pretty close to a thousand if I push hard enough.

With the usual cap, I can't get much faster than five or six hundred miles an hour, which is a total drag.

W-wow, really? [Normally he'd be a little skeptical...but then again, this is a talking pony, maybe it has super speed too.] That's amazing--I don't think even Accelgors are usually able to go that fast...

Huh, and how fast do these Accelgor guys usually go?

Well... [He has to stop and think about this for a second.] Their base speed is usually around 145, while higher-leveled ones can have their speed stat around as high as 427. They're considered one of the fastest Pokemon out there...well, in the Unova region, at least, since there may be one or two other Pokemon with a speedier taste in other regions.

Huh. So do those numbers have anything to do with miles, or is it calculated some other way?

[Or, heck, maybe they have a totally different measurement system. Different worlds have their own quirks, after all.]

[...Good question. POKEMON LOGIC HOW DO YOU WORK.]

Those calculations I mentioned previously are usually based on their statistics in battle, but I imagine that there's a different set to be used in order to account for an Accelgor's speed by miles per hour.

[But then he smiles slightly] Even so, I've yet to hear of one that could potentially break the sound barrier like you claim to.

I'd give you a personal demonstration if I could! I've pulled off two Sonic Rainbooms back home and a couple more here. Maybe some other time.

[She snickers.]

Still wouldn't mind racing one of those Accelguys, though.

[That would be kind of amusing to see a pony race those Pokemon... ^^;;]

It's a shame that I've yet to see someone with an Accelgor here in Luceti, otherwise I'm sure it would be a very interesting sight to see a race with them.
